County Armagh, Northern Ireland, 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor.

Developed by Sonia Friedman Productions, Jez Butterworth's play The Ferryman premiered to huge acclaim at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in April 2017, before transferring to the West End. The production was directed by Sam Mendes.

It went on to win the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play and the Critics' Circle, Olivier and WhatsOnStage Awards for Best New Play.

Meet Your Book Seller

A dedicated home for stage and screen.

Hi, I’m Jack, a musician, conductor and lifelong enthusiast of film and theatre. After founding The Studio Orchestra, a 70-piece orchestra celebrating the music of stage and screen, I left an eight-year career in supply chain planning to build the bookshop I’d always wished existed.

Fourth Wall was born from a frustration: books about film and theatre are too often confined to a small corner. I wanted to give plays, screenplays, behind-the-scenes books and creative craft a dedicated home - one designed for curiosity, inspiration and discovery.

If I can help in anyway then you can always reach out to me on jack@fourthwallbookshop.co.uk
