Join the Webb sisters as they return to their mother’s Blackpool guest house during the sweltering summer of 1976.

Blackpool, 1976. The driest summer in two hundred years. The beaches are packed. The hotels are heaving. In the sweltering backstreets, far from the choc ices and donkey rides, the Webb Sisters are returning to their mother's run-down guest house, as she lies dying upstairs.Jez Butterworth's play The Hills of California was first performed at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End in 2024, directed by Sam Mendes, and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street.

Meet Your Book Seller

A dedicated home for stage and screen.

Hi, I’m Jack, a musician, conductor and lifelong enthusiast of film and theatre. After founding The Studio Orchestra, a 70-piece orchestra celebrating the music of stage and screen, I left an eight-year career in supply chain planning to build the bookshop I’d always wished existed.

Fourth Wall was born from a frustration: books about film and theatre are too often confined to a small corner. I wanted to give plays, screenplays, behind-the-scenes books and creative craft a dedicated home - one designed for curiosity, inspiration and discovery.

If I can help in anyway then you can always reach out to me on jack@fourthwallbookshop.co.uk
